We, the members of the Women’s Movement towards Freedom, have received with deep sorrow and anger the heartbreaking news of the tragic death by self-immolation of Abida, a young girl from the Taywara district of Ghor province. This tragedy is neither the first of its kind nor will it be the last—unless silence is broken and justice prevails.

Abida was one among thousands of girls who have fallen victim to the Taliban’s oppressive and patriarchal regime. When every path was closed to her, she turned to the only remaining act of resistance—to let her silence scream.

By setting her body aflame, she cried out:

I am a human being, not a commodity to be bought and sold. My existence is not a tool for assault or humiliation.”

We unequivocally condemn the Taliban—a group that, under the guise of religion and Sharia, has dismantled the very foundations of humanity and stripped women of their most basic rights.

This regime, which bars girls from education, employment, and the freedom to choose their own partners, must be held accountable before international justice—not only for crimes against humanity but for the systemic femicide it perpetuates.

To families across Afghanistan, we say:

Do not barter your daughters in shameful transactions, Reject forced marriages and Stand against oppression—neutrality in such times is complicity.

To local elders, clerics, fathers, and brothers: Abida became a flame to pierce through darkness. Your silence will be a permanent stain on the conscience of history.

To the daughters of this land: You are not alone, your voices are heard and we stand with you—as one, undivided body.

To the international community: Your indifference today will not shield you from the judgment of tomorrow’s history.

Abidas across Afghanistan need justice, protection, and refuge—not pity or neglect.
